NEWS: GLASGOW

GLASGOW (THE SCENE IN THE CITY)

The chic Merchant City, in the eastern part of the central part of town, is home to almost all of Glasgows gay clubs and bars as well as independent art galleries and cafes. Glasgow's gay scene revolves around the hip bars and cafes of this cosmopolitan area. Virginia Street and John Street are loaded with trendy, gay friendly pubs, as are many other streets in this area. Fashionable shops and funky art galleries add an edgy, hip feel to the scene. Gay Glasgewians tend to be friendly and unpretentious, and the nightlife scene reflects this laid-back attitude. Glasgow's fab gay scene is a friendly one, centered around the east quarter of the city, in Merchant City and surrounds. Choice is superb for gay nightclubs, gay saunas, gay clubs and gay bars - there's a Clone Zone shop here too. Glasgow is one of the UK's best homes for live music and the emergence of innovative live bands. Checkout the choice of prime Glasgow club venues.

BAR REVIEWS - SCENE

NEW!, Upbeat and Fun...3 words i'd use to describe Glasgows newest Gay bar SCENE!. The times i have been along to this bar i have had a ball with a lovely welcome from the doorman, Management and friendly bar staff , very sexy in their themed clothes be it Boxer shorts and boots to army trousers and face paint, the theme weekend nights from the bar staff add the modern twist needed in such a lovely modern and young bar. Interior is underground caverns all brick and original, making your night also feel like you are part of history in a basement with arches and nice lighting it sort of reminds me of a Phantom of the opera scene beautiful and tasteful.

CLUB REVIEWS - BENNETS nightclub

Glasgow's first gay night club and something of an institution in the city. It first opened its doors in 1981 and is still a popular haunt for Glasgow's gay community. Self-described as the city's "premier gay and lesbian night club," Bennets is the most consistently popular club in the gay scene. The club extends over two levels, with cheesy chart and full-on dance music Again all staff on my visits have been great , the mixture of straight men and women is another fantastic sign of the times and shows people are moving on from the days of "oh your gay!...you go to your gay pubs ,we'll go to our normal pubs", makes me smile :)

Bennets is located in the heart of Merchant City, Bennets has 2 spacious floors, with 3 bars. At the weekends both floors are open with cheesy pop music played on the upper level & harder music on the lower level. they are open 6 Nights a Week with Drink Promos to compete sucessfully within the local community.

ALEX RATINGS: I think it is a good bar, definitely 8 out of 10

Overall rating: 8/10

Design rating: 7/10

Drinks rating: 6/10

Service rating: 8/10

EasyInstructions for Glasgow Step 1 Check the guides for Glasgow. Bar and travel books often have sections with gay bar listings. This is a good way to find the older, more established bars, though they won't always be the hippest venues. Step 2 Look online. Unlike printed guides, online listings can be updated frequently so they're a good source for current information. Check mainstream sites listing bars, as well as specialist sites like Gay Scotland, Gay to Z and Pink UK. Step 3 Drop into the Glasgow LGBT Centre. Have a drink in the café bar and pick up flyers for bars around town. Step 4 Head for Merchant City in the eastern part of Glasgow and check out the bars on Virginia Street, Wilson Street and Glassford Street. Step 5 Keep your eyes open for leaflets and advertising. Finding one good venue can lead to several others if you collect information as you go. Step 6 Mix and mingle. As you visit bars, talk to people and chat to the bartenders. The locals will be able to give you details on the scene and the best venue

See you in MARCH ! with love Alex xxx
